Yanfei “Effie” Gao was born and raised in Shanghai, China. She has loved drawing since she was a child. Although her major in college was not art, has taught herself to work in both watercolors and digital media. She now works as a freelance illustrator, based in Topeka.

Her daughter and her two backyard cats inspire her daily. Yanfei has published “ABC Dinosaurs,” “Roar!!! A Dinosaur Coloring Book,” and “The Odd and Odder Otters.”
